Conclusion:
JPMA, CPSC and Greengard certified bassinets are a great way to ensure that your baby is safe. They come with certifications from some of the most trusted organizations in safety standards for children’s products. However, these types of bassinets do have their cons as well.
For instance, they may be more expensive than other options on the market today. Another con might be that you can only use it at home or when you travel because there isn’t room for them inside vehicles like cars or buses–unless you buy an extra car seat attachment which are sold separately!
The JPMA, CPSC and Greengard certified bassinets have been tested by experts to make sure they meet all of the safety standards set out by these organizations.
For example, JPMA stands for Juvenile Products Manufacturers Association which tests products like car seats and strollers as well as mattresses made specifically for babies’ needs. CPSC stands for Consumer Product Safety Commission that has oversight over children’s clothing items such as pajamas or nightgowns with button-up fronts or drawstrings in the neckline area around a child’s face.
FAQs:
What certification should a bassinet have?
Bassinets require a voluntary certification, which is voluntary and not mandated.
There are no standards for bassinet quality and safety in the United States, and the only requirement would be of the consumer who must know how to identify one that is safe for their baby.
There are state laws governing crib-related items such as drop-sides or drop-head rails which serve as warnings about holes babies can get their heads stuck in.
But there is no such warning system for bassinets. Crib mattresses also have these type of warnings against suffocation if they don’t meet certain standards, but there are none when it comes to bassinets even though they represent a much more direct threat to an infant’s life.
Is UPPAbaby bassinet JPMA certified?
Yes, UPPAbaby bassinets are JPMA certified.
UPPAbaby went a step further to ensure safety and has engineered a wider-than-usual space between the mattress and the side of the crib. The cordless drop side release mechanism is located away from baby’s reach where it cannot pinch or strangulate baby.
The UPPAbaby cRIOllar sleep system included with your bassinet has been crash tested at three times the industry crash lab standard to make sure it will never come loose from your child during an accident which could lead to suffocation or strangulation.
Proper packaging is also ensured using memory foam padding so no item rattles around in transit without damaging other items which may be against them.
How important is JPMA certification?
Not very.
In 2014, JPMA commissioned a study, using 240 randomly-selected toys from 50 popular children’s brands, looking for any indication of the presence of six hazardous chemicals. Of those products tested, 7% were found to have one or more hazardous chemical – and these came from a range of toy manufacturers including Fisher Price, Disney Princesses and Barbie dolls that all carry the JPMA certification mark–so it would seem that whatever process they go through doesn’t do much about having safe toy production practices.
A JPMA Certified safety seat has been shown to dramatically reduce the risk of injury more than five times compared with harnessed safety seats that are not certified. Studies show that children in a JPMA Certified seat suffered fewer injuries and longer hospitalization rates, and consumer ratings rate JPMA Certified car seats highly.
A JPMA Foundation Hospital Food Service Safety Program designation not only confirms an establishment’s commitment to food safety and compliance with regulatory standards, but it also demonstrates their willingness to proactively manage food-borne risks at every possible touch point.
What is JPMA certification?
Certification by the Juvenile Products Manufacturers Association that a product meets or exceeds voluntary standards for safety, quality, and performance.
The JPMA is an independent non-profit association of North America’s leading infant equipment manufacturers. By voluntarily participating in JPMA programs to develop and maintain rigorous specifications for safety, health, performance, and latest technological advances in the market, member companies work together to provide safer products for babies.
The results are obvious-less need to worry about how the baby will fare at home when there’s so many great new products available on store shelves that have been rigorously tested not just by toy manufactures but also by outside scientists.
Is Graco JPMA certified?
No. Graco’s JPMA certified products are the ones carrying the JPMA seal on both the package, instructions, and their website.
JPMA is a company which tests and certifies baby products. The answer to this question would depend on whether the person asking the question is referring to safety, quality, usage guidelines.
One can search for safety guidelines at https://jpma.org/safety-guidelines/, or one could just find out from the Graco website that the JPMA certification does not include guarantees of durability or comfort of fabric or designs of their seats.
Is Arms Reach JPMA certified?
The JPMA certification means that Arms Reach was rigorously evaluated for compliance to AJPMA’s requirements and is monitored throughout their manufacturing process.
The AJPMA evaluates products for a variety of issues, including the use of toxic substances in parts, paints, finishes and coatings; adhesives used for carpets, padding and upholstery fabrics; labeling on the finished product; lead paint testing on both decorative surfaces and componentry.
In addition they will evaluate products intended solely as bedding or furniture to insure that mats meet all applicable flammability standards. Finally they also independently test true steel framing with advance materials such as foam cores.
Is JPMA better than GreenGuard?
This is a tricky question to answer, because it’s hard to provide a definitive opinion on the JPMA standard when Green Guard isn’t defined. For this reason I’ll say that JPMA is better than Green Guard in general, and leave it at that.
Unfortunately, JPMA is not any more antimicrobial than GreenGuard. We recommend that you look for products that go beyond earning our GreenGuard label by limiting the use of phthalates and flame retardants; providing safer recycling practices; labeling their product with contents; and indicating moisture gain levels.
Are all cribs JPMA certified?
No. JPMA certification applies to those cribs that meet certain safety standards, such as narrow spaces between the mattress and railing to prevent children from becoming trapped; flat railings; and non-marking foot fixtures.
If you’re buying a used crib, be aware that it may not meet these safety standards, and if you do buy one without JPMA certification please take extra precautions like having a canopy or using no sheets on the bottom of the bedding.
However, many parents report they’ve been able to find good secondhand cribs by shopping at places such as Amazon Marketplace or Craigslist, so it’s likely worth doing your research!
Is GreenGuard certified worth it?
That really depends on the individual. A person desiring a vinyl liner for children needs to know whether they have a pool for toddlers or if they are pregnant themselves. Someone who has a high level of chemical sensitivity might not be able to use any type of liner, and someone with sensitive skin will likely need a higher quality liner.
Each person’s pool situation is different, so it can’t just be judged by one thing – some people will have sensitivities that don’t show up on any test at all! The Greenguard certification does not guarantee the product is safe as there are many more unknown issues related to chemicals and pregnancy floating around out there.
Is Halo bassinet safe for newborns?
Halo bassinets are incredibly safe for newborns if they are properly installed and used with an approved mattress.

What does green gold certified mean?
Green gold certified is a term we use for any hotel that meets strict criteria to minimize its environmental impact and generate renewable energy without offset, such as the Kenai Peninsula’s Captain Cook Hotel. The Kenai Peninsula has a vast and beautiful landscape so you can even see green gold at work from miles away!
Some of those green practices include: solar water heating, high efficiency LED lighting in common spaces, low flow toilets and faucets, high efficiency air conditioning units for guestrooms and living spaces as well as conservation measures such as LED exit signs to reduce bulbs used by half. The hotel goes far beyond PEI requirements because we care about our little slice of paradise!
What is the difference between GreenGuard and GreenGuard gold?
GreenGuard is a chemical-free graded product for surface protection. It can be applied to any interior or exterior furniture, grout, flooring products, plaster, glass tiles and car products.
GreenGuard Gold is simply the hard finish finish layer of GreenGuard. On its own it provides lasting durability against scratches, spills and stains on floors or treatments that are prone to this type of adverse conditions.
When topcoated with an additional UV coating it provides long-lasting protection against water spots on glass tile where not covered by another material such as ceramic tile or granite countertop The beauty of this product is how it can be easily layered with other finishes for exceptional performance in all situations whether commercial or residential applications.
How do you know if a crib meets safety standards?
- Look for a label that says the crib meets or exceeds safety standards
- Inspect the slats to make sure they are no wider than 2 3/8 inches apart
- Check for lead paint on any parts of the crib, including paint used near seams, hardware, and decals
- Make sure there are no sharp edges or points on metal pieces such as screws, bolts, nuts, and brackets
- Avoid using any wood products with cracks in them
- Use only mattress pads made specifically for use with your type of crib – never put sheets over a mattress pad or change an old one without first checking if it’s still safe to use
Is Chicco Lullago JPMA certified?
Yes
No. In 2015, the JPMA Certifications Program is open only to companies with a manufacturing location in the U.S., Canada, or Taiwan. Manufacturers outside these three countries may contact the program director for information on becoming a certified company through a reciprocal agreement.
Are co sleepers SIDS approved?
No. It is too risky to co-sleep with your child, not only can they suffocate in bed or be attacked by predators, but it is also close enough to the mother’s breast that if an infection passed from one breastfeeding site to another might pass more easily.
The safest place for babies is next to mom on their back, preferably with an arm pillow wedged behind them for extra safety until they are able to roll over themselves.
The only time co-sleeping should happen is when there are two parents present and awake; no children younger than five; no pillows or blankets shared between mother and child; and any soft surface changes daily (i.e., matress).
Are bassinets with mesh sides safe?
Yes, bassinets with mesh sides are absolutely safe.
There is no chance that a baby will get stuck in the mesh and it can’t fall out because the cushions hold them in.
Having said this, please make sure to observe your child when they are in the bassinet closely at all times for any signs of distress and intervene if anything causes concern (including flat noises and strange breathing).
Yes, the issue here is choking on small objects like pieces of food or toys that kids shove into their mouths while playing or when napping which could also happen even if they’re not inside a crib. This risk applies to both cribs and bassinets- babies can put almost anything in their mouth!
Are playard bassinets safe?
Playard bassinets are being marketed as a “safer” way to care for baby. But the only thing they have going for them is that they are convenient, not safer!
They give parents, many of whom never learned how to use a cribs or rockers because their siblings were born later-long gone whenever-more freedom to wander through their house doing whatever, while baby sleeps safely in what resembles an oversized hamster cage.
And if you’re really careful about following the instructions every night for assembling or disassembling your playard into whatever configuration it’s supposed to be in before bed then maybe they’re actually safe too.
Does greenguard test for lead?
Greenguard does not test for lead. Instead, we use a low level Laser device to detect and measure emissions of ultraviolet (UV) light from fluorescent lamps.
This procedure is able to measure the quantity and distribution of UV light throughout the atmosphere from one lamp that emits both UV-A and UV-B wavelength radiation.
In this way, it can then determine whether or not a lamp model is coated with mercury vapor, which would produce quantities of UV-B invisible to normal testing equipment employing an electrical arc as a source.
The reason why greenguard doesn’t specifically investigate the content of your product but rather monitor its safety through other environmental factors is because after extensive research they have found no published materials proving lead actually poses a health risk.
Are Ikea cribs Greenguard Certified?
Ikea cribs are not Greenguard Certified. Ikea’s U.S. stores sell what they call “baby mattresses” that are made of polyester tufted with cotton, but these mattresses do not contain any fire retardant chemicals and they’re labeled as such on the label of the mattress; there is no guarantee that their products will meet American safety standards for child bedding materials.
Is greenguard paint low VOC?
It’s tough to find anything with zero emissions, and there is zero regulation of labeling.
There are no regulations on the labelling and marketing of products claiming “zero emissions”. One manufacturer (Sherwin-Williams) bragging about their Zero VOC paint has been ordered by the U.S. government to cease advertising because they’re misleading people who want a safer product.
And it must be noted that even these paints do emit some low levels of volatile organic compounds (VOCs).
So what can you do if you care about your indoor air quality?
What is a green guard crib?
To answer this question, first we need to understand the basics of a crib. All cribs have an assembly that can either be taken off or folded down for storage and parents may prefer one setup over the other.
The term “cot” is used interchangeably with “crib” but it actually means a small bed traditionally used in Europe as far back as the 16th century. In addition, “cot” as a reference to a baby’s bed has been replaced by the word “crib”.
Cot comes from ‘coffin shape’ and was an authoritarian way for royals to show their rank at funerals whereas we use cots nowadays for babies without much ceremony or fanfare.
