Buying a bassinet for your newborn is not just about getting a place for your baby to sleep. It’s also about making sure that your baby feels comfortable and safe.
With that in mind, I decided to test out some of the best bassinets with my little one. I tested the Bassinet Mattress from Cozymom Infant Furniture and the Baby Dreams Luxury Firm Foam Mattress from Fisher-Price. Read on to see my results, so you can make an informed decision before buying one of these products yourself!

How Thick Should A Bassinet Mattress Be?
It’s ideal for a bassinet mattress to be 1-inch thick for children up to 3 months old. If the baby is younger than 3-months old, then it’s recommended that the mattress should be thicker.
The best way to know if your newborn baby needs a thicker bassinet mattress is by feeling the edge of the crib with your hand–if you can feel through it or easily put your fingers into it, then but sure to upgrade! And finally, always look at how far down the railing goes before determining what size bedding will fit in your crib.
This is to ensure the baby cannot crawl out due to how spacious their surroundings are, and also because of safety hazards from things bumping applesauce off the edges onto them while they sleep. Make sure there is plenty of space between the mattress and any other objects on either side of it as well.
Why are bassinet mattresses so thin?
Thick mattresses create an environment that is more desirable for dust mites that live in the mattress. Dust mite allergy can cause significant respiratory symptoms, nasal congestion, runny nose, and tearing of the eyes. Keeping your infant’s bed free of dust reduces your child’s exposure to allergens and asthma triggers.
The thinness will also reduce risk for SIDS when used with safe sleep guidelines. Also it will be less likely to sag through use so there’ less worries about safety when it comes to crawling babies getting trapped between the vinyl and any gaps/holes in it where they could suffocate if not properly monitored (which is hard for most parents).
How do I know if my bassinet mattress is firm enough?
You should aim for a coil count of at least 5 per inch and with 30 coils, it would be roughly 12″ deep.
A mattress with too little support will result in restless sleep and sore backs the next day. So if you want your child to enjoy this blissful start to life, buy a firm bassinet mattress.
It is important that it has enough springs to allow even weight distribution and prevent sagging (both of which can lead to discomfort and restlessness). For example, if your need a 10’x10′ bassinet then you should choose a model that measures 18″ or more across the corners–easily done by measuring from one corner diagonally to its opposite corner.
What is a Bassinet Mattress?
A bassinet mattress is a mattress for your baby. In other words, it’s a bed that fits into your bassinets and makes them more comfortable for newborns.
Some bassinet mattresses come with covers to make sure the mattress doesn’t get dirty or damaged. Of course, you can also buy this separately (perhaps from Cozymom Infant Furniture), but I wanted to test out two different brands of bassinets with my little one.
After testing both products, here are my findings:
● The Fisher-Price Bassinet Mattress proved easier to put together than the Cozymom Infant Furniture model;
● The Fisher-Price Bassinet Mattress was easy to use, allowing me to adjust the height of my baby’s head;
● The Fisher-Price Bassinet Mattress is on the softer side; and, lastly
My Initial Test of the Cozymom Infant Furniture Bassinet Mattress
The Cozymom Bassinet Mattress has a pleasant and soft feel to it. I like the overall design of this bassinet mattress, as well as how the mattress fits my child’s frame perfectly. When laid flat on a bed or on an open floor plan area, it feels comfortable for sleeping. The only issue I had with the mattress was that it tends to shift around when I move my infant during the night because it is so thin. This can be uncomfortable for some parents and may create a lot of movement for young infants.
The Fisher-Price Baby Dreams Luxury Firm Foam Mattress is a little more expensive than the Cozymom mattress but is definitely worth the investment if you are looking for a durable bassinet mattress that will help your baby sleep comfortably at night. It is made of high-quality foam and can support up to 350 pounds, while also providing a firm feeling of comfort to your little one.
My Second Test of the Cozymom Infant Furniture Bassinet Mattress
What’s the best bassinet for a baby? It depends on what you’re looking to do with it.
A bassinet is an essential product that every parent should have in their baby’s nursery. It’s also an affordable option, so it doesn’t cost you much money up front. Depending on your needs, you can buy a variety of different types of bassinets with varying features and prices. But how does the Cozymom Infant Furniture Bassinet Mattress stack up against them all?
The Cozymom Infant Furniture Bassinet Mattress set includes two mattresses: a firm foam mattress for infants, and a soft memory foam mattress for toddlers. Both are made from high-quality materials that are both durable and comfortable.
This is not your typical brand of bassinet. You won’t find cheap plastic toys or cheap beds with plastic covers on this one. This is something much more special — a piece of furniture designed to keep your baby snug while they’re growing up. As such, the Cozymom Infant Furniture Bassinet Mattress offers plenty of comfort and durability for young babies who need extra support during those first few months before they can start taking care of themselves independently.
Results of my second test of the Baby Dreams Luxury Firm Foam Mattress from Fisher-Price.
All the mattresses were made from a special foam material that is designed to be very supportive and comfortable. The quality of the materials used was important to me because I wanted my little one to feel comfortable and safe when she was in her new bassinet.
So how did the mattresses compare?
The Cozymom Bassinet Mattress: This mattress has a soft, plush interior that’s perfect for any infant. It’s also very easy to clean, so you don’t have to worry about stains. The Cozymom Mattress has a nice big pocket on it where your baby can put their feet up or play with toys.
The Baby Dreams Luxury Firm Foam Mattress: Although this mattress is thicker than the Cozymom Bassinet Mattress, it’s still super soft and will give babies just as much support. The Baby Dreams Luxury Firm Foam Mattress includes a waterproof cover that makes it easy for parents to clean up spills and messes on their baby’s bedding. It looks like a plush blanket, but it’s actually a thick foam mattress that gives babies the support they need when they’re sleeping in their new bassinet!
Conclusion
How do you know what mattress brand to buy for your baby? Synthetic or memory foam? You can’t test all of them, but if you want to, you can use my testing process to find the best mattress for your baby.
